Wei Ci taught and prepared my 14-year old for the Literature IGCSE papers, in just 6 months.
From "I don't like Literature and who in the world wants to learn Literature", my daughter grew to enjoy and master her essay and analytical skills under Wei Ci's guidance and patience. After each assignment, she feels a sense of achievement and quiet joy.
On the morning of her Literature exam, she said to me on the way to the exam centre: I've never felt so prepared for an exam! And, she was rattling off Shakespeare's famous quotes, smiling and feeling happy.
Wei Ci's passion for Literature is infectious! Many times I wanted to sit in and listen to her lesson. She is skillful in teaching and drawing out each child's potential. I'm grateful for the prayers and time she spent with my daughter.

I started studying literature with Wei Ci in 2018, first with the introductory class and later the O and A levels. Over those few years, I not only learned how to write formal essays and analyse texts beyond their surface meaning, but also to better appreciate certain literary forms (eg plays, poems) that I otherwise had little contact with. Overall, our weekly sessions were always engaging and enjoyable, and played a pivotal role in shaping my love for literature as a subject :)

My daughter first took lessons in Literature with Ci when she was preparing for her O level exams. She was given a good foundation and she very much enjoyed the time she spent learning with her. When she decided to study Literature again for the A levels, she tried lessons with another tutor who had many years of experience in teaching the local syllabus. After a year, however, I made the decision to approach Ci to teach my daughter again. At that time, Ci did not have prior experience in teaching the A level syllabus, but she did her research and agreed to do so. My daughter’s interest in the subject picked up again and she found a lot more motivation and joy in learning. That, to me, is an important accomplishment and I am very thankful to Ci for all the years she’s spent with my daughter!

Teacher Ci helped me improve my English writing skills by pointing out and correcting my mistakes until I began correcting them myself. She also provided me with exam strategies to make sure I completed the papers in time.

About Ci:
I completed my BA in English Literature with the University of London International Programs. As a homeschooler, I studied English Literature in high school with various online courses, which prepared me to take the SAT and AP exams. Though I had always loved reading and writing as a child, it was partly the amazing experience I had studying English in my high school years which motivated me to eventually obtain my BA in English Literature. The skills of critical reading, analysis, and writing were ones that I only became more grateful for with time, and which formed a sound basis for the rest of my education. With six years of experience teaching English Literature, and a life-long relationship with reading and writing, I have enjoyed helping students explore literature and equipping them with the tools to analyze and appreciate it, not just for exams but for themselves. Through it, I hope to give my students as memorable and significant an experience as I had myself! To Students: A bit about me: I love Lit memes, pun intended; swapping them with my students has been the highlight of my teaching career. Also, tea--if you're wondering what's in that orange mug I'm sipping during class--and I tend to talk too fast when I'm excited. I have read just about every Agatha Christie murder mystery that can be found in Singapore libraries; if you can introduce me to one I haven't read yet, I'll be eternally grateful. Last but not least, I have two guinea pigs who can do tricks (though they are enjoying semi-retirement now as senior guinea pigs) Whatever your current relationship with reading and writing is, I hope you learn to love it and ace it. Because trust me, there's so much to enjoy and discover once you do. I'm excited to read your writing and work together with you, to help you become a confident and capable reader and writer (and maybe even survive that exam.) |
